2010 Reunion Information

Dear Shipmate,

We are pleased to announce that the plans for our 2010 USS SAN DIEGO (AFS-6) Reunion, scheduled for June 17-20, 2010 in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina are coming along fine.

The Sheraton Charleston Airport Hotel will be the site of our reunion. Charleston is known for its stately homes with lovely gardens, magnificent public buildings and majestic churches. Charleston is also home to the world’s largest naval and maritime museum, Patriot’s Point. Charleston has many entertainment attractions for all to experience and enjoy.

The Sheraton Hotel is located just three miles from Charleston International Airport, and allows easy access to restaurants, shopping and other entertainment activities. The room rate is $99.00 per night. This rate will be honored 3 days before and after the dates of the reunion, and is based on availability. Our Registration Fee will be $75 per person, which covers Welcome Reception on Thursday night, Buffet Dinner on Saturday night, Hospitality Suite with snacks/drinks, Photographer, stationary/envelopes, postage, name badges and other incidental items needed for the establishment of our reunion.

Cancellation policy: Complete refunds minus Check Fee ($10.00 per person) will be granted until May 18, 2010, which is the cutoff date.

2010 REUNION TOURS

Carriage Ride into the Past – Friday June 18th 2010

Enjoy the sights of Charleston the way our ancestors did, aboard a horse-drawn carriage. A leisurely ride through narrow streets and alleyways carries you past carefully restored eighteenth and nineteenth century homes and buildings. Your knowledgeable guide relates three hundred years of history to the accompaniment of horse’s hooves clopping along the pavement. The scent of tea olive from nearby gardens lingers in the air as you snap that special photograph capturing a bit of Charleston’s history. After your carriage tour spend some time shopping and browsing in the Old City Market and have lunch on your own at one of Charleston’s fine restaurants.

Patriot’s Point Tour with Lunch in the CPO Mess – Saturday June 19th, 2010

Patriots Point is the world’s largest naval and maritime museum. Visit the Aircraft Carrier USS YORKTOWN, the famous fighting lady of World War II; the destroyer USS LAFFEY, a participant in the World War II D-Day landings at Normandy; the submarine USS CLAMAGORE, one of the Navy’s last diesel powered submarines. Enjoy a traditional hot lunch in the CPO Mess aboard the USS YORKTOWN.

$52 per person Minimum of 35 per coach

Both tours listed above include roundtrip transportation via air conditioned Coaches.

Will Open to Patriots Point Maritime Museum Home of the USS YORKTOWN located in Charleston, SC.

We are looking at having information for a Ghost Tour for those who enjoy being scared. Details on Ghost Tour will be available soon.

A Photographer will be covering our Welcome Reception, Patriots Point Tour and our Banquet on Saturday night. In addition to covering these events, the photographer will offer packages of pictures for sell, including individual and groups. These photos will be available at the reunion so you can take them home with you. We will be using the photos taken to construct a reunion memory book after the reunion. We will have pricing established at the time of the reunion, and orders/payments will be accepted.
